CHILLIN ON DA CORNER & BEYOND FOLLOW INSPIRATION WITH EDUCATION AS IT PRESENTS A PANEL DISCUSSION ON CAREERS IN ENTERTAINMENT AND MEDIA
1 year ago

New York, NY (August 30, 2010) ? On Tuesday August 31, 2010 Chillin on da Corner and beyond (CODC) will follow up the highly successful "Life is precious" event that special guest Gabourey Sidibe attended with a panel discussion on "How to get into the biz and make a career out of it".  The panel is focused on offering education and career information about entertainment and media professions.  The panelists include representatives from film, television, radio, music, and fashion.  The event will be from 5:30 to 8pm at the New Testament Church, located at 904 Myrtle Avenue at Tompkins Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn.

As summer winds down, CODC continues on its mission of education through entertainment and bringing both directly to the Bed-Stuy community. The "How to get into the biz?" panel was assembled to address "showbiz" as a business, not merely stardom but to offer a level of comprehension of this multiple faceted entertainment life and those who make a career out of it.

Ephraim Benton, actor and CODC founder states "Everyone wants to be Diddy or 50, they come from these neighborhoods; these kids need to see beyond the bricks and violence that surround them.  With these discussions I hope I can supply them with vital tools that can change their perception of life and lead to true greener pastures."   Lex Lewter of LightUp Films, title sponsor of the series asserts "I hope some learn a lesson and consider what it takes to make a career in entertainment" as his reasoning for being a panelist.  The well balanced panel additionally includes Malikha Mallette; co-host of the Power 105.1FM Ed Lover Morning Show and actress, Ty Fyffe; record producer accredited for working with top R&B and Hip-Hop acts from Drake & 50 Cent to LL Cool J and Blackstreet, Miles Maker; independent film writer, director, producer and executive producer of the Directing Actors Gym, Marty Grace; clothing designer and fashion line owner, and Okema T. Moore; journalist and partner in XI Magazine ( www.XImagonline.com).    Benton goes on to affirm "This kind of information is a resource; people pay tons of money to be part of things like this.  I am bringing them professionals who are taking time out of their busy schedules to give them insight and in their own community. How valuable is that?"

More than 20 years after Spike Lee encapsulated the "Bed-Stuy do or die" energy of this Brooklyn neighborhood much has changed and much has stayed the same.  Ephraim Benton and CODC spent this summer aiming to bring inspiration, information, entertainment and education to the masses up close and personal.  The belief and hope that changing one life for the better can change many is the driving force behind the support that Benton offers his community, and the support that he garners from others to further his mission.  Benton himself was given the same sort of awakening and now seeks to do the same for others with CODC. This event is supported by our community sponsors McCray Media, Beyond Influencing Da Hood Inc, Black And Brown News and Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union.
