About Me: Funk Volume is a record label and production company founded to promote creativity and authentic self expression through music. Based on our belief that music has lost its originality, our vision is to make being different cool again.
In the 80s and 90s, each artist had a different style and felt comfortable expressing their individuality. Whether it was Public Enemy bringing a political edge to the game, NWA coming Straight Outta Compton , or DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince telling us how Parents Just Dont Understand , every artist brought something different to hip hop. Some had a bigger following than others, but each artist represented a voice that needed to be heard.
Today, it seems like you have to either be a gangster, a gumball pop rapper, or a backpacking hipster. Major record labels are not making money selling music anymore, so they are not willing to take a risk on anything that is different or unproven. As a result, new artists end up being some fake version of Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, or 50 cent. We are not trying to take shots, but we are offering a challenge to all artists and labels - to turn up the FUNK VOLUME!
Funk Volume plans to lead the movement. If the songs are well constructed, the lyrics are creative and precise, the beats boast high quality production, and most importantly, the artist is authentic, then we feel the music should be heard. Our artists spend countless hours perfecting their craft because they respect and appreciate the art form. We will not throw tracks on an album just to fill space. And to show our appreciation for your support, our music will be available on our website&.FOR FREE!
