Bio
Winston Alexander Ritter was born on the 12th of February, 1982 in Greensboro, NC.
In late spring of 1989, a decision was made to move across the country to Casper, WY. Once moved, all communication ceased as the threes location became a mystery to his entire family. This would be the beginning of his journey into Hip Hop.
Winstons father had a strong southern background and believed in corporal punishment. Eventually these habits would progress into open handed slaps across the face, verbal intimidation, finally leading to all out beating.
Things at school werent any different as his peers were constantly ridiculing him for his interest in Michael Jackson. Winston would participate in school talent shows performing dance routines of Michal Jackson from 3rd grade until 7th grade, winning first place in each competition. He couldnt communicate properly to those around him that it was all he could remember of his mother and that she was no longer a part of his life. Keeping Michael close was like keeping his mother close. While living in the thick of poverty, mounting ridicule from teachers, peers, and his own father were becoming too much. An escape was found in Hip Hop.
Frustrations were mounting, animosity was forming, and resentment surfaced as the family moved once again. Upon moving this time to Montana, it became Winstons mission to hide who he was in Casper, keeping his interest in Michael Jackson a secret.
An interest in skateboarding was picked up as well as the style in attire. JNCO and Kik Wear jeans, oversized flannel shirts, and a chain wallet made the character you see today, all of which only worsened the already strained relationship between him and his father.
As the beatings at home continued to get worse, Rap music fueled his preparation for the streets as he took them on for over three weeks and ran away from home for the first time at 13. It was on the streets that bad habits were picked up to keep fed and clothed. Stealing, lying, and cheating became a norm. Eventually his reputation caught up with him and in 1996 he was questioned for holding up a local McDonalds and stealing a car. Nothing was ever proven, and at 14 Winston received a minor marijuana charge and misdemeanor theft. This would only be the beginning of his troubles, leading to more beatings from his father.
An escape found in Hip Hop was expressed emotions that were brought out in poetry as a young child, spilling over to freestyle battles on the playground and on the street corner. Today this past is summed up in a hit on the streets called, My Eyes. This would also be the first underground release by this artist. Winston was finally gaining the acceptance with his peers and it was all through rap music.
By 14 Winston had fallen into the system with two stops at a Juvenile Detention Center in Wyoming, several stays in the county jail, Youth Crises Center, and a brief stay in a group home. Days after his 17th birthday he was released, free of all charges and convictions. By this time an interest in re-establishing contact with his family, and most importantly to him, his mother was explored. He returned home to North Carolina in 1999, ten years after his departure.
It was in Burlington, NC, just 30 miles east of Greensboro, Winston would attempt to re-establish a relationship with his mother. Being such a strong southern woman, rap would not be accepted in her home. After a few months he was kicked out of the house. Solitude had become a normalcy in his life by this point, but being shunned by his own family was unexpected. Discouraged, music would be put off. It was back to the streets for Winston as he ended up in a homeless shelter at 18 in Burlington, NC, and eventually back to Greensboros homeless shelter.
After a year of being homeless an internet search and a few phone calls gave this new artist a studio, a producer and a voice. Juniors Motel in Otho, IA, home of Kirk Kauffman, was a traditional studio with digital capabilities, but was focused on promoting the use of old school reel to reels. Juniors Motel, Kirk, taught Winston the inner workings of a studio, and gave him some insight into the careers of some of some major talent. Artists such as Melvin George and Slipknot were among the musicians that utilized the facility and still do to this day. From 2003 to 2007 Winston would frequent Juniors Motel, fine tuning his rhymes, working out his sound, and creating Dr. W.A.R.
Utilizing lifes experiences for material, this artist would struggle over the years to get past all the anger and animosity built up inside, desperately seeking a direction to go in. Bringing all of his experiences together into music made Winston realize that Dr. W.A.R. would have to be a voice for ones just like him. From all the moving around the different states that he had grown up in, Winston would move his music to different styl
