About Me: Plan A is to succeed, at everything. There is NO Plan B. This is the mantra in which Melyssa Savannah Ford decided to live by the day she packed up her belongings and left her home with a one-way plane ticket, $25 dollars and two suitcases and headed to New York City.
Now, almost eight years later, Melyssa Ford is known as the original and top urban supermodel, former top video vixen and now actress, television personality and budding philanthropist. Originally hailing from Toronto, Canada, this exotic beauty, with a combination of West Indian, Norwegian and Russian heritage, was discovered by director Little X while attending York University to study Forensic Psychology. Melyssa Ford was soon tapped to star in several Little X videos including Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin'", and Sisqo's "Thong Song Remix" in 2000 and went on to be featured in additional videos like Ghostface Killah's "Cherchez La Ghost", Usher's "Yeah", and Alicia Keys' "You Don't Know My Name", among many others.
Melyssa then went on to star in several independent films and secure a recurring role on Showtime's hit series "Soul Food" and the UPN series "Platinum". Subsequently, offers for editorial work in magazines began to pour in. It was a feature piece in XXL Magazine that led to a job offer to host an Internet show, "Lifestyles of the Phat and the Phabulous." "Lifestyles" turned out to be a bit of a tipping point for Ford and based on the internet buzz it created she found herself vetting even more offers including Black Men's Magazine's 2001 swimsuit issue. Black Men's Magazine, Smooth and King covers amongst others followed as well as pictorials in Maxim, Playboy and FHM. Melyssa, who minored in English Literature while in university, also wrote a successful monthly advice column for Smooth. Numerous other publications have featured Ms Ford for her business savvy, turning herself from a mere magazine model and reader favorite into a household name and a brand. Ms Ford went on to lend her image to other brands, such as her 2 year stint as the face of Apple Bottoms Clothing line, owned by rapper Nelly, only to see the line increase in popularity with consumers. Success in television came next with appearances on ESPN's "Playmakers" in 2003, co-hosting BET's entertainment news magazine show "BET Style" from 2004-2006, appearances on HBO's "Entourage" and the CW's "The Game" in 2007.
As Ms Ford ramps up to put much of her energy into developing her acting career she already has some roles under her belt including 2004's "Psyche". In 2007 she rose to the task of taking on supporting roles in "Three Can Play That Game" and "Days of Wrath", both set for release in 2008 which both feature all star casts such as award winning actress Vivica Foxx and Tony Rock in the former and Laurence Fishburne, Taye Diggs and William Valderama in the latter. In "Love For Sale", Melyssa takes on a starring role opposite Jackie Long of ATL and Grammy Award winning singer Mya amongst other notable actors. Because of her position and status in the urban world as the only one who transcended from the world of videos successfully she is asked on numerous occasion for her opinion and presence on distinguished panels and forums held at universities and colleges around the country, as well as features on MSNBC, ABC Nightly News and CNN. Although her brains don't go unnoticed she is regularly thought of for her beauty and featured on such shows as the recent E! Channel feature Byte Me: The Webs Sexiest women.
Meanwhile with all these balls in the air, Melyssa Ford finds time to develop future projects, motorcycle race and put together her foundation for mentoring young women. This is a woman on a true mission.
