I realize this ... no team in pro sports is "untouchable" and this thread was sort of tongue and cheek.  I do honestly feel that the Yankees are the best team in MLB, but w/ last season still fesh in mind, I know even a playoff birth is something I can no longer take for granted.  You are also right that the Yankees do almost always have the best team on paper, and on top of that, they always spend the most money ... that being said, ppl claiming the Yankees are "buying" a championship is a contradiction, and actually an absurdity.  If you say most money doesn't necessarily equal most winning (which I agree with), than you can't turn around and claim the Yankees are buying a championship ... that doesn't exist in reality.  The best any organization can do is put their team in a good position to be successful.

Also, nobody mentions the facts that A) the Yankees make FAR more money than any other baseball team on and off the field ... the revenues aren't even close, so they deserve to spend the most money overall, B) On a dollar for dollar basis, the Yankees also spend more many than any team in baseball which is a credit to the Steinbrenner family for not pocketing their profits like the vast majority of teams do, and C) The Yankees pay HUGE amounts of money in luxury taxes to most other major leage baseball clubs which ownerships usually pocket as well instead of reinvesting in the team.

So, would you rather be the family owned New York Yankees who gross and
spend the most money total and on a pound for pound basis, who pay huge
amounts of money to baseball franchises owned by corporations, or would
you rather be one of those corporate owned teams who even use the names
of their ballparks for promotional purposes, and pocket the vast
mojority of the money they earn for their stockholders?  It's a fairly
easy decision, and that's not even considering the Yankee breed of
winning which is unparalelled in any pro sport ... and that's not
