Recently readers of The Vibe Magazine named Eminem "The Best Rapper Alive" although many hood niggas still consider Lil' Wayne to be "The Best Rapper Alive". In record sells Eminem has sold way more albums than Lil' Wayne...Lil' Wayne's solo career really didn't take off until he recorded 500 degreez then Tha Carter...As for as recording projects, Lil' Wayne has more mixtape projects and features than Eminem. But Eminem features are more memorable (Just think of his guest spot on Jay-Z's Blueprint album)...So it boils down to street cred and how people accept one's swagger...Is Lil' Wayne "The Best Rapper Alive" because he's on every radio station, video show, and magazine cover due to his hard work ethic? Does he outshine Eminem (Who's a far better lyrist) because of his swagger and street cred? Does being the best rapper alive mean more than just having superb lyrically skill?

There is no 'Best Rapper Alive' and record sales are meaningless when it comes to skill. Nothing more to explain, but uhh..Eminem is way further above Lil Wayne.

There can never be a best rapper alive cause there are too many styles to compare and the only people who record sales should matter to is the people making the money and thats the labels. Artist don't really make anything from albums the average artist makes 40,000 from going gold which aint shit you cant even by the new dodge challenger with that.

Ok, I keep hearing that record sells doesn't matter...but thats how soundscan keeps track of a particular fanbase...it's also determines how the hiphop fans recieve a certain artist correct? If an artist goes platinum it means there's a million people out there who actually likes what you're putting out there...Now if the Carter 3 wouldn't have gone platinum then would Lil' Wayne's claim to being "The Best Rapper Alive" have any merit? Trust me, the money matters to these artist just ask Kayne West. Meanwhile, there's a best rapper alive out there it just ain't Lil' Wayne. I think Jay-Z can argue that fact, as well as Kayne West and 50 Cent. If T.I. claims to be the King Of The South which is where Lil' Wayne is from then wouldn't that make T.I. better than Wayne? Or is Lil' Wayne saying that he's "The Best Rapper Alive" so he's better than The King Of The South?

There will never be just a singel best rapper out there, people will always have different opinion's about whos better then who, but on that note my opinion is Eminem is far better then Wayne, if i had to pick out my own top best rappers alive today, then Eminem would be top, but to some of yall i would be wrong in saying Eminem is the best, cuz some of ya'll would feel different about it and would pick it differently when it comes to your own opinions.

determing whos the best rapper is like sayin whats the best candy or nba team....... its a subjective question....whether you admit or not the question is answered on a bias because everyone has a personal favorite....which is what it is.... the best rapper is a personal favorite....
but to answer as best as possible....when speaking on behalf of the world i would say jay because of the flourishing success of the career..jay 12+ platinum an counting...He's shown us his lyrical side in his younger days an hes matured his music as well as swag on tracks...hes the one "most" 'hip hop' heads would relate to in todays society...hes been droppin since 96, but hes been in the game longer than that so he's basically been apart of the transformation of hip hop....having a strong supporting cast and mentors such as BIG, jaz-O etc...he is the right fit
my personal would be joell ortiz....niggas just too fuckin nice look him up if you donno about him

Lupe is the best rapper alive TODAY...Wayne needs to stop trying to sing wit his new boyfriend T-Pain (in da ass) all the time, (of course his last boyfriend was Baby) and jus straight spit like he used to...his shit is real corny these days,,,Lyrically, Lupe is more creative and overall jus better than Wayne and Kanye (Kanye is a little better as a songwriter tho)

yea I know this thread is 2 months old...anyway. I think Ghost said it best. The question you are asking here is rather subjective. Everyones favorite is most likely different, although many are probably the same. Saying any one person is the best alive is like saying that a certain beer is the best, knowing that everyone has a different taste they go for. Not that everyone drinks beer, but I'm sure you get the analogy. Wayne is creative in his own way I think, I used to like him back at 500 degreez, he pretty much went under the radar even having multiple platinum records. Even with the Carter, it was a great seller, but alot of people diddnt pick up on him. Carter II is where people really caught on, and Carter III, well, you already know, dude blew up like an arasol can sitting in the sun too long. Kanye, I miss his old music, like through the wire and shit. Now its all fabricated nonsense I think. Lupe is nice, but the best? cmon....Hov is a monster, flat out, anyone who listens to hip-hop will say that. Granted, I'm not even a big fan of his, and I still recognize how big of an impact he has made....anyway. When I think of the best rapper alive, I dont think of any one person, I think of probably 7-13 different dudes who are all dope in their own way and style, but thats just me....

In order to be the best rapper alive, the artist must obtain all different levels of success. Nowadays, rap music is far more than just music. It is a business. Rappers are businessmen today. Hence, they must be successful in the studio with their skills, as well as the boardroom with the execs. I would not consider an artist to be the "best rapper alive", if he does not own and operate his own label. Reason being, The last, self-proclaimed best rapper alive, Jay-Z, Was CEO of Rocafella records, Rocawear jeans, maintained his own alcoholic beverage, as well as ownership in an NBA team. This stemmed from rap, and his ability to hustle. If you pay attention, you will see other artists on the same road as Hov. T.I., Grand Hustle, Ludacris, DTP, 50, G-Unit, Even Young Jeezy, CTE. Im not saying who is the best, and who isn't. I'm merely saying, if the last was successful on all fields, then the next must be successful on all fields. And Record sales Do matter. The best rappers know how to make music for both sides of listeners. Your records will sell if you are the best. The people determine who the best is, not the artist. So, if the people like your shit more than the next man's shit. They will buy YOUR shit, making you BETTER. Whats a step up for being better? Being the BEST. Nuff Said

Juelz Santana is the best rapper alive...there really aint no best but what about this artist?...If you listen closely to how he deliverz and use wordplay and how illmatic and deep some of his songs be...like this line.."This iz powerful music that we bring to the table the secret of Abel..."..."from the Diplomatic Immunity album. Santana is obviously very patriotic and I've alwayz been a listener to his music. Much respect to Juelz Santana..1 of the best rappers alive....There really aint no best though...they all are just as monumental as the other in their own individual expressions. I think Lil' Kim iz 1 of the best rappers alive too. Mad bitchez be try'N to front like they didn't get it from listening to Lil' Kim's style..talking about.."I'm the Queen B!"..lol..it's funny to me. But on the real...Lil' Kim and Juelz Santana are on my top two list of best rappers.

Wayne's hood swagger is already unappealing to me. Being hood was cool when we were like 13. Any grown up person realizes that is no way to go about life. It's down right unprofessional and the only place you will get away with it is in the rap business, which is an unrealistic goal for most. That whole persona just comes off as childish.
If we're talking strictly commercial rappers then Eminem was the best all around if you step back and think about it.

doesn't "Best/better rapper" mean who can RAP??? why is it that when we focus on the skills people want to bring into consideration things such as fanbase, record sales, etc??
if u want to talk about who is a BETTER RAPPER between the two then obviously Eminem has demonstrated a far broader versatility than Lil Wayne, even though, I'll be the first to admit that despite the pop-rap tendencies of Lil Wayne he is pretty creative.
so are we talking about who's mroe talented??? well, eminem also happens to produce, right? so he's a musician in addition to being a rapper, so he's mroe talented, but as i stated before, aren't we only focuaing on "rap ability?"
cause if that's the cae, i can think of a LOT of rappers that i feel are more talented than BOTH of them, and Eminem's beats are monotonous anyways.....
AND, you're talking about fan base and record sales, though i don't beleive those ahve anything to do with emceeing skills, they are a huge factor in being a good ARTIST or ENTERTAINER, but even then, Weezy may be hot right now and have the "hood cred" but honestly, Eminem's career is far mroe vast than Lil Wayne's... he's broadened into major motion pictures, and his fanbase expands far beyond the hip hop subculture, a huge part of his crossoever success... I heard that mufucka on the Local Colroado METAL station haha.
however, in the end, i think they're both wack and both fell off/sold out and are now watered down versions of their former, hungry selves.
