No announcements have been added. July 17, 2008 ![]() INTRODUCTION After a bit of thought, I saw best to include an artist that is known to a lot more than just us British for the first Section. So I hought who better to include than Kane Brett Robinson, better known to the public eye as Kano. He was born in East Ham, Newham, London on the 21st May 1985. His Grandparents first came to the UK as immigrants from Jamaica. As he grew, he became a key member in East Londons N.A.S.T.Y Crew (Natural Artistic Sounds Touching You) but due to a major arguement within the crew he has since left and as of now is no longer signed with 679 Recordings having parted ways with the label. THE RISE OF A STAR In his early teens, Kano attended Langdon Comprehensive School in East Ham, Newham, where his mother still works as a netball teacher for Year 8 students. Kano was a promising footballer representing Chealsea F.C, Junior Hammers and Norwich City at the age of thirteen, but decided to abandon his love for the sport, in favor of a musical career. His first track was 'Boys love Girls' and he became known on the grime scene for his work with his original crew N.A.S.T.Y which included artists such as Ghetto. From this, he became signed as a solo artist and began work on his debut solo album. Kano first started to rap on the underground scene on Flava FM as a youth and after a couple of years ended up with N.A.S.T.Y. Whilw in the crew, they had one of the most popular shows on pirate radio station known as Deja Vu, with sets which included established, and up and coming artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Durrty Goods and Wiley. He used the crew as a springboard as he was destined for bigger and better things in his future, which led to him leaving N.A.S.T.Y and going solo. His first solo track was 'Boys Luv Girls' which was produced in 2002, which later was taken into studio and remastered by Dizzee Rascal. In 2004, Kano released his debut solo single, 'P's & Q's' which was only released on 12" vinyl. This ended up being a massive underdround hit, which marked Kano as a rising star. CRITICISM Kano has been critiscised for not staying loyal to the genre that made him noticed by the people. He deviated from the sound and began making collaborations with indie collectives and singers such as Kate Nash. As expected, he strongly disagreed with the criticism that was put against him, claiming that he is an 'MC' and should be able to spit over anything that he wants.
