A spirited, if innocuous collection of high-profile chest-thumping gangsta rap hits all put together by the beloved mixtape defender DJ Clue. The Perfect Desert Storm is Clue's second real effort out of the underground and it shows that the world of official CD releases still leaves him a bit lost. Surely, anybody craving the glamour-stricken top rung of the hardcore rap ladder will have a blast. Jay-Z, DMX, Lil' Kim, Method Man, and the like all appear here. It's the sudden jolts, invasive segue shouts, and very little (if any) DJ tricks that will put off most plugged in hip-hop fans. While Clue's tricks in his word-of-mouth mixtape past hinted at a maverick talent championing his favorite tunes, efforts like this show little progression other than a glorified and clumsy collection status. To be fair, the level of enthusiasm in Clue remains strong. The party feel jolts up in the midst of a simple parade of hits (Sheik's "Two Tears in a Bucket" or QB's Finest's "Oochie Wally") ,which make it far more than some awful "Greatest Gangsta Rap Hits!" television compilation. It's just not something that will prevent any over-saturated fans in either the hardcore or Rawkus vein from shaking their heads in simple irritation.
